Little Boy was shown at the Birmingham Council House from
the 14th - 16th September as part of the Artsfest 2007 festival.
Katrina's work hints at the underlying violence of extreme heat and
looks at the subject, use and testing of nuclear weaponry, as a
means of control, terror and annihilation of the masses.
"I feel it is important to add an element of childhood in all my
pieces of work, emphasising the innocence of the victims of war,
arms testing and genocide."
Her piece of work, Little Boy utilises the idea of a childhood game
of marbles, the work creating an essence of this game through a
small glass marble ring, giving the impression of being fused by the
force and violence of heat created from nuclear weaponry.
Added to this is a glass jar of marbles, melted and fused together
with a small circular bed of sand which supports, and completes the
piece: enforcing the idea of the sand having been vitrified from
fusion.
A review of this work, plus an interview with Katrina can be found on the Arts Hub Website.
